Exploring Romance Options in Baldur's Gate 3
Whenever a new Dragon Age game drops, the first thing that everyone wants to know about is… Romance! And trust me, it’s every bit as exciting as the previous games, in fact, more, when you find out that every companion is a romance option, with their own taste, needs, and wants.
We have a total of 7 companions in the game, including Davrin, Bellara Harding, Emmrich, Lucanis, Neve, and Taash. And already people are fighting over who the best option is and why. While I won’t be telling you who the best option is, I will definitely lay out all the options for you.
However, Romance in Veilguard is quite a bit different than what we’ve seen in the previous games. Let’s talk about that first.
How is Romance Different in The Veilguard?
As I mentioned earlier, there are 7 different romance options for you in the game. But unlike previous games, they are all pansexual, and you can practically get into a relationship with any of them regardless of what gender or race they belong to.
Of course, everyone would have their own preferences, and I am not gonna go into that. And since you are not going to be dating everyone, they can actually get into a relationship with each other, of course, that is, if certain conditions are met.
For you, though, you will be using your flirting skills to turn your companionship into a more serious relationship. This happens during the quests you take related to them, and spending time conversing with them and using your cheesy pick-up lines, giving them gifts, and such.
Now let’s look at all the options we have, what race they belong to, and how the relationship with them works out for you.
1. Bellara
Let’s start with Bellara, a super nerdy elf who’s totally into the ancient elven tech. She’s exactly what you’d expect from a nerd: shy, awkward, and pretty cute.
If you decide to romance her, things get sweet pretty fast, she’s easy to be around with, and openly shares her worries and insecurities with you. As the story goes on, you’ll help her face those fears, and she even picks up some surprising new hobbies along the way. I really find her backstory to be quite sweet and full of heart.
2. Emmrich
Then we have Emmrich, a human necromancer. This guy’s pretty smart and unlike Bellara, he’s into magic and kinda philosophical, when you get to know him.
If you decide to get into a relationship with him, you will start to realize just how thoughtful he truly is. He also shares his fears and insecurities, making you feel welcome. He will also need your help as the story progresses, with decisions that will be both important to you and him. This is the one if you are looking for a more soulful character to have meaningful conversations with.
3. Davrin
If you are someone who loves an adventurous soul, Davrin’s is the one for you. He’s an elf, with a baby griffon, that looks quite adorable. Anyway, Davrin, as far as I know, is constantly learning to have more patience, and develop trust.
When it comes to your relationship with Davrin, he’s totally opposite of Bellara, absolutely confident. Dates with him are pretty exciting, not calm at all, like flirty and fun. He also loves to share, occasionally, but with passion. If you’re into confident guys who know what they want, Davrin’s your pick.
4. Harding
Then we have Harding, a funny dwarf who’s always calm, and chill in most situations. She’s been through a lot but still manages to keep a positive outlook on life.
Harding loves to share her experiences, happy moments, and her life as a dwarf. Her story really touches you in a way that it just creates a permanent place in your heart.
5. Taash
Then we have Taash, a pretty cool, but very dangerous warrior, who can even take out dragons. But a great person to be around with. Everything about her just screams confidence.
She’s more serious from the rest, but still manages to make you laugh with her hot-headed and raw reactions. But despite her confident personality, she has this feeling of not fitting anywhere, and that’s something you can help her with. Showing that you understand and share her feelings. Otherwise, she’d just get along with Harding instead.
6. Lucanis Dellamorte
You might wanna get into a relationship with Lucanis, if you are more into a dark, mysterious personality. His life is full of adventures, living on the edge kind of a guy. But he’s also very private, and only shared his secret he’s really close to, which is almost no one. However, you can win his trust, and that’s when he starts to share how he really feels.
Once you really get into his heart, he will do some crazy things for you, that might look out of character for a toughened assassin. But that does take a while and some really good effort to get there, but let me tell you, totally worth it!
7. Neve Gallus
Finally, we have Neve, a super kind soul, but also holds an Alpha leader type of personality. She’s always on the guard, always observing things around her. I guess that’s part of her investigator character. But she can really help you stay out of trouble, and help figure things out.
Just like our assassin guy, Neve also takes time to really open up, and just tries to push you back whenever you try to make a move, making her hard to win. But once you do get close to her, she’s a really loyal and caring person, and willing to do anything for you. Oh, and if you’re not interested, there’s always a chance for her and Lucanis to spark something instead.
