Getting Started with Mods in Baldur's Gate 3

I’m sure you guys are ready to do some crazy things with mods, because that’s what we gamers love to do with every game. We can make the game look ridiculously cool, tweaking gameplay mechanics, or, something more fun, like turning characters into something completely unexpected. Mods have always been the ultimate way to customize your game, and I’m glad Baldur’s Gate 3 gives us the chance to use them.

But before you go modding everything, here’s a quick heads-up: mods can sometimes cause bugs, crashes, or even make the game unplayable. So, always use trusted mods from reliable sites like Nexus Mods, and back up your saves just in case. Alright, let’s now talk about how to do it!

How to Install Mods in Baldur’s Gate 3

Nexus Mod Manager

Well, there are actually two ways to go about installing mods in this game: the first one is using a mod install, or manager, which makes the whole process super easy. And the next one is doing the whole thing manually, downloading the mods, and replacing stuff in files. I will tell you both ways in case you need to use the manual one too.

1. Install Mods Using a Mod Manager

Like I said before, the easiest way to install mods is by using a mod manager like Vortex Mod Manager, which is supported by Baldur’s Gate 3. Trust me, this will save you a ton of time and effort. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Download and Install Vortex Mod Manager from Nexus Mods.

  • Open Vortex, go to the Games section on the left, and find Baldur’s Gate 3 in your game list.

  • Click Manage on the game to enable it for modding.

  • Find mods you like on Nexus Mods, click Download, and Vortex will take care of the rest.

  • Most mods will work seamlessly with Vortex, and the manager will automatically install them into the right folders. Easy peasy.

2. Manually Install Mods

If the mod doesn’t work with Vortex, you’ll have to go old-school and install it manually. It does take a bit more time, but if you must, here’s how to do it:

  • Download the mod from Nexus Mods and extract the .pak file from the zip folder.

  • Find the mod folder for Baldur’s Gate 3. The file path should look like this:

  • C:/Users/YourUsername/AppData/Local/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3/Mods

  • Copy and paste the .pak file into the Mods folder.

  • Use the Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Manager to activate and organize your mods.

And that’s pretty much all you need to do to get your mods up and running. Now, it’s all up to you to decide which Baldur’s Gate 3 mods are best for you. So, go ahead and have fun turning the Forgotten Realms into something truly unforgettable… or hilarious.
